Costa Rica Rain Goddess Fishing Adventure

Rain Goddess Fishing Adventures - Costa Rica.

...a fishing trip story by unknown author

As I prepared for my trip to Costa Rica, having not been there before, I didn’t know what to expect. Now after almost 4 weeks, it’s way more than I thought it would be. What a beautiful country. The people, the scenery, wildlife and nightlife—oh yea! The fishing too!!. If you don’t come experience this, it’ll be your loss. Now I’m on a wonderful houseboat (located on Lake Arenal in Central Costa Rica. Home of one of the world’s most beautiful active volcano’s. When it erupts, it sounds like a jet taking off, or a hot air balloon shooting gas to rise into the sky. Lake Arenal is full of Guapote (Wapote) bass. A cousin to peacock bass and just as strong. Muchara are also here and kin to Piranha, but are fruit eaters. They love spinner baits and buzz-baits. I’ve seen them destroy a spinner-bait with teeth like a human. They jump like a tarpon and smallmouth bass. The lake is long and deep with many rivers and creeks. There are grass beds that cover large areas and about 20-30 feet deep. These are full of Wapote Bass . A spinner cast down the edge will pull out the bass for quite a battle. On one occasion a fairly large one took me back under the mat of grass, but I still had him on my hook. Tavo, my friend and guide jumped in the water and dove under the grass coming back up for air saying “GRANDE” It took many tries, but he finally got my (our) fish. ½ his, ½ mine. What guide do you know in America that would do this for anyone—None. I’ve guided for striper bass now for 21 years and I wouldn’t. These fish are as strong as anything I’ve caught in fresh water.

Dr. Alfred Lopez, my friend and Ron Gardner, former holder of Texas Smallmouth Record—7’11” –and more investors have put together an experience and adventure you need to come see. Words don’t do it justice. THE RAIN GODDESS is unbelievable—the crew is great, Clifford the Chef will make every meal an adventure in itself. I’m gaining weight every day.

Also available is a trip to Rio Indio Lodge located in Southern Nicaragua on the San Juan River and Caribbean . Tarpon, Snook, Wapotes and many species are available here year round. Rio Indio was 3 years on construction at a cost of 6 million US dollars. After staying there 5 days, I promise you it would cost 20 million in the US to build, or more. It’s a place you have to see to believe. If you want piece and quite, It’s here. There’s no air traffic above, satellite phones are the link to the outside world. A couple of times, I didn’t know what day of the week it was. How great is that !! Everything is better than 1st class. I am trying to write this with my wrist bandaged with ace bandage—from catching too many fish. I have arthritis and I’ve had to quit fishing because I’m hurting so bad from such strong fish. Back to Costa Rica. This country is the #1 place I’ve been and I’ve been to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 14 times and all down the Pacific Coast of Mexico. I’m never going back to Mexico because of problems on a trip. That stuff isn’t going to happen in Costa Rica and you don’t have to worry about food or water in Costa Rica

The climate is great—60’s in the mornings and 70’s in the afternoon. Costa Rica is a non military country, so you don’t have to go through Federal guards on the roads—where they might want money or whatever the want to take from you to pass—like in Mexico (get my drift)..

The mornings are cool and filled with sounds of monkeys, birds so numerous and beautiful you’ll have to hear and see to believe. Several species of turkey also live around the lake and are not hard to spot and hear. I’ve also see my first wild otter also fishing like myself. The surrounding country is mountainous to elevations of 5,000 ft. The view of the volcano is breath taking.

The RAINGODDESS is an adventure and experience that will truly change your life. The Goddess has 6 bedrooms, 3 baths and a modern kitchen and large dining room. Two decks with covered tops with lots of deck chairs and recliners. The fishing boats are Ranger Bass Boats with 200Hp Merc optimax motors, purchased from Bass Masters Classic. All tackle is first class from the USA. It is now Sept. 04 and I’ve been here 4 weeks. Have to return home to Texas to get ready for hunting season.

Dr. Lopez has purchased a piece of property above the Lake looking directly at the volcano and Lake. The will build condos which will sell immediately and will be ok to time share to get return on your investment.

I’m not a writer—just a country boy from Texas , but I have to share my experience with those who want to listen. Get your passport in order and call for reservations now. Also for the ladies, the Arenal area has many spa’s and hot mineral baths available right from the volcano. Many other outdoor activities are here too, but the RAINGODDESS is #1
